Dame Vivienne Westwood has designed a new BRIT Awards trophy.

The veteran British fashion designer’s is the first of a string of BRIT prizes to be sculpted by leading British creatives in a new drive to refresh the trophy’s image and make it unique each year.

Artists will be given a “blank canvas” from which to fashion the model from scratch annually.

Vivienne’s creation has set an elegant example, with the designer dressing the trophy in a flowing off-the-shoulder red and blue Union flag gown.

“Vivienne stands for all the things we want to inspire in tomorrow’s generation of artists,” BRITs Chairman David Joseph told British newspaper The Telegraph. “She continues to be unique, innovative, not to mention massively inspired by music and vice versa. We are honoured she accepted our offer of designing 2011′s trophy.”

The current British music award has been around for 34 years so Vivienne is the first to break the mould.
