Is Britain as Hedonistic as they claim

Is Britain as Hedonistic as they claim

Is Britain really a selfish, hedonistic wasteland?
Apparently, abortion and gay rights are to blame for turning Britain into a ‘selfish, hedonistic wasteland’ which has become ‘the geopolitical epicentre of the culture of death.’ That’s the view of Senior Catholic adviser Edmund Adamus.

Quite rightly, gay rights and pro-abortion groups are furious over these comments. I am a Catholic and pretty appalled by Edmund Adamus’s views. It seems I am not the only one who is appalled. Vincent Nichols, The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster appears to not be too pleased with his colleague’s comments. A spokesman for Mr Nichols said the views expressed by Adamus “did not reflect the archbishop’s opinions.”

People don’t choose their sexuality to an extent. Yes, one may be curious about their feelings during puberty, but no one convinces themselves to turn a certain way over their sexuality. I believe that if you are attracted to men, women or both there is not much you can do about it. In fact, it is surely much harder to live a life of denial and false love? In terms of abortions, the Catholic Church has always condemned abortion as a ‘grave evil.’ It’s hardly front page news then that Catholicism will never support the choice to terminate. However, there are always exceptions to the rule – nothing in life is that clear cut. What about women who are raped or who make a moral, financial or personal choice not to bring a child into the world?

I do feel though that the Catholic Church always seems to come across as so extreme in their views. I’m still undecided whether this is because of what they say or the way that the media interpret and report the Catholic Church’s views. However, I’m sure Mr Adamus must agree that his timing isn’t the best. The Pope is due to fly into Britain on the 16th September for a three day visit.
