Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel is one half of the 60’s influenced, folk indie band She & Him. But most of us know her from the big screen.

Coming from a showbiz family, she is no stranger to acting; her father is a cinematographer and both mother and sister are actresses, so creativity is definitely in her genes… as well as her name as it’s taken from the male character in J.D. Salinger’s novella Franny and Zooey.

Deschanel first appeared in Mumford (1999) and went on to appear in films such as Almost Famous with Kate Hudson – who she went to high school with – as well as Elf, Yes Man and more recently (500) Days of Summer (which was up for best motion picture in the comedy/music category at the Golden Globes but lost to The Hangover), and on TV series such as Weeds and Tin Man.

Yet acting is just one of her many talents. Deschanel can play the keyboards, percussion, banjo and ukulele as well as sing! She has sung in many of her films; in Elf she sings ‘Baby, its cold outside’ with Will Farrell and in Yes Man, she sings many of the songs on the soundtrack. This month She & Him release their second album titled Volume Two which is indie folk music that make you wish you were at a party in the 60’s. The lyrics sung by Deschanel are love-felt and charming. Their music has progressed beautifully since Volume One which was released in 2008.

M. Ward is her partner in the band but not in life; she married Benjamin Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) in September of 2009.

Deschanel is known to love Jazz, photography, philosophy and Fashion, especially all things vintage. Her passion for vintage fashion translated into a collaboration with Oliver Peoples Eye Wear, which is a collection of retro inspired glasses.

Deschanel has just finished filming Your Highness with James Franco and Natalie Portman, which is set to be released later this year. She is currently touring with She & Him.
