Alexander McQueen Final Collection

The tragedy of Alexander McQueen death only weeks ago meant his final A/W ready-to-wear collection was a very sombre affair. Instead of showing these pieces on the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week, there is a private room set aside in memoriam of the designer. The mood in the showroom is as you can imagine very sad with tears and no one even whispering.

Everything within this collection was in its final stages upon his death and was both developed and cut by McQueen, his crew only having to make the finishing touches. The fashion house’s chief executives said the collection was inspired by the Old Masters of painting. Feathers, Venetian capes, and abnormal lines showed his extraordinary skill and love for the theatrical. The collection mostly consists of deep reds, golds, and browns, and really illustrate the hole that will be left in the world of fashion.

It is rumoured that the Alexander McQueen label, which is owned by French retailer PPR, has already started looking for a successor, but Chief Executive Jonathan Akeroyd assured that the past few weeks have solely been spent working on this presentation and no one has yet been chosen.
