When it comes to Fashion Week in Milan, it is all about the big names. While of course everyone will be looking out for Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci, we want to remind you about some smaller (but still big) names in Italian fashion.

Some designers, like Roberto Cavalli, exude the elegance and glamour that is Italian fashion. This being said, Cavalli also has a history of showing clothes that raise eyebrows, as well as completely flipping his design style from season to season. It is this roller coaster design trend that makes us eager to see his newest line.

Just about the polar opposite, Jil Sander designs tend to be very graceful, featuring simple suits and dresses in muted colours and fabrics. Though the label has been operating without its namesake for quite some time, they have stayed true to her style principles, a practice that is sure to make this season a good one.

Newer on the runway is Dsquared2, made up of identical twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten. These Canada born brothers operate around Europe, giving their line the tagline “Born in Canada, living in London, made in Italy.” Popular among musicians such as Rihanna, Fergie and Britney Spears for creating eye-catching music video looks, they are known for their bright colours and fun outfits. Their spring/summer line featured outdoorsy looks, complete with a trucker hat on every model, which can only allow us to imagine what will be coming down the runway this go-around.

While big name brands are the trend, Milan hasn’t forgotten about aspiring designers. There are several programs in place for newcomers, including the Fashion Incubator, the Nu-D-E Project and the Next Generation Project.
