If there is one show in the fashion calendar, that no matter what the seasonal trends, always screams fairytale, it’s the Chanel Haute Couture show. This year’s show at the Grand Palais in Paris was no exception. Just a few months before the historic venue had played host to robotic Chanel perfume bottles and specially commissioned art work for Karl Lagerfeld’s gallery inspired Chanel show. This time around he had transformed the Grand Palais into a bright white house of minimalism that formed the stage for the Chanel Haute Couture Collection SS14.

All the Chanel regulars were in attendance. No we’re not talking front row personalities. We’re talking boucle wool, perfectly in-line buttons, embellishment, sequins, pastel colour palettes and column silhouettes. These classic features were juxtaposed perfectly against futuristic flairs, such as sports luxe-esque knee pads, sleek Chanel trailers and boxy tailoring.

Cara Delevingne was joined by the likes of Lindsey Wixson on the catwalk, whose hair was teased into its halo like appearance under the watchful eyes of renowned hairstylist Sam McKnight. (As shown off to perfection by the delectable Cara and Lindsey backstage on Instagram above!).

The makeup was under the charge of Peter Philips that evening. He matched matte skin, a delicate sweep of blush and lightly balmed lips with a dramatic eye look. A blunt black flick extended from the inner corner of the eye, right through to beyond the outer corner, with a similar shaped flick mirrored on the lower lid in thick-cut, iridescent glitter. The overall look was semi-classic with it’s 60s-esque black liner, yet entirely space-age in the same breath, the lower lash line coated in a constellation like flash of glitter.

Chanel took its fairytale-like couture history and sent it speeding into the future. It was indulgent, captivating and entirely dream-like. We don’t want to wake up!
