It’s definitely one of the highlights of my fashion calendar and this year Paris Couture Week hasn’t failed to deliver with Georgio Armani Privé and Christian Dior taking to the stage yesterday.

Now it’s more than likely that you couldn’t even fathom an event where it would be appropriate to wear any of the creations that we’ve been seeing swan down the runways in Paris, however find me one (and the finances) and I’d be there! Yesterday (24.1.11) we saw the biggies Christian Dior and Georgio Armani Privé kick things off and they didn’t disappoint.

Georgio Armani Privé

Armani Privé was all about the fantastical futurism of bold cuts and streamlined shapes. The colours were all slight takes on the classics; teal rather than navy, pewter rather than black… rusty crimsons rather than Valentino reds.

What we loved?

The amazing ability to match the material texture, almost exactly, to the metallic discs that sat upon each models pretty brow. Very cool and very a great touch with the immaculate plum lips and flawless complexions.

Christian Dior

This is the one I always look out for and this year John Galliano pulled out all the stops as he took the cuts, textures and makeup back to the Forties.

The glamorous models, all with perfect pouts and classic waved updos, literally swanned the runway donning incredibly intricate designs the gradually graded from mysterious blacks and reds to softer greys and finally to a beautifully pretty palette of pastel yellows, pinks and off-whites.

What we loved?

The exquisitely hourglass tailoring and amazing detail, even in the rouche of the skirts! Plus you can never go far wrong with a princess ball gown and forties makeup… I feel I need a White Tie event in my diary soon… any offers?

Keep an eye out for more Couture Week updates as they come in…
