Dolce & Gabbana close their D&G line

Dolce & Gabbana has confirmed that it will be folding its D&G line. The Italian fashion house – made of designer duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - have decided to end the brand to concentrate on their signature Dolce & Gabbana line.

In a statement, they said the move would give “even more strength and energy to our collections”. It means today’s (22.09.11) D&G show at Milan Fashion Week will be the last for the range and the company will be incorporating the D&G line into its signature line.

D&G is a slightly more casual line and is the younger, more flamboyant line of the brand. Unlike Dolce & Gabbana, D&G sells watches as well as clothing. However, while they are getting rid of the D&G line, Domenico and Stefano recently revealed they are embracing technology and selling their collections on the internet as they want to give everyone the chance to buy their designs.

Domenico said: “It’s a retail channel we are very interested in, because it gives everybody the chance to experiment with the Dolce & Gabbana world. You don’t have to live in a big city – you just have to own a computer.”

Stefano added: “Luxury is not a static concept, but it shapes and changes with society. Now somebody who might not have the time to come to one of our boutiques can shop online.”
