Even if you’re not a Downton Abbey fan, we’re pretty sure that you will have heard the show. However it’s not the story lines that have got us excited, it’s the style and the show has given a new lease of life to our interest in Edwardian and vintage-inspired pieces in the same way that Mad Men brought 1960′s trends back into our lives.

The key to pulling off this look now is finding pieces that are inspired from the era (not actually originating from it!), and combining them with your own style. One of the common problems when vintage thrift shopping is that you can find some great pieces – maybe a nice lace dress for example – but they hardly ever fit properly and often need a good dry-clean (tailoring it, plus the dry cleaning bill? Don’t think so!).

We were recently browsing through our local Miss Selfridge on Oxford Street and found it has a great selection of vintage inspired pieces that not only fit well,  but that aren’t expensive either. So if you’re looking for that vintage feel a la Downton, but don’t want to wear elbow-length gloves and floor length gowns, we’ve found just the items for you.
