Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed something of a rarity on these shores– sunshine! Yes, we have been enjoying somewhat of a summer scorcher so far, so much so, in fact, that there are already talks of hosepipe bans, shared baths and even standpipes in the streets next summer!

That aside for now (come on, British heat-waves don’t tend to stand the test of time, so let’s just enjoy the sun while he still has his hat on) our biggest concern at the moment, is how to stay cool in the heat.

While holiday dressing is fun, summer dressing can be tricky, or should I say sticky? Let me clarify – holiday dressing includes lots of bikinis, sheer cover-ups that do nothing of the sort and most importantly a beach or pool always within jumping distance. Summer dressing, however, involves dealing with public transport and an office in 30°C temperatures, and our ‘pool’ equates to running the cold tap over as much of our arms as possible. Oh the joy.

Take the stress out of getting dressed with looser shapes: wide leg trousers and maxi dresses give you room to breath and hide a multitude of sins if, like me, your summer ‘diet’ has yet to start. Go for a lightweight blouse or a silk tank top; and for a relaxed tailored look perfect for the office add a room-y open waistcoat. Sunglasses are a must (preferably ones as bright as the sun), as are hats – sensible and stylish in this heat please. Whether you’re hitting the beach, having a bbq or finally getting the garden furniture cushions out this weekend, check out my summer scorcher hot picks and make sure you’re the one sending temperatures soaring.
