New York Fashion week is coming to an end and we are thrilled to see that the hair trends from the Fall 2011 shows are sticking around for Spring/Summer 2012. If you recall, the hair seen on the runways a few months ago for this season was all about beautiful hairstyles that don’t take much effort. The mantra was “imperfection is perfection.” Remember the loose braids that we saw at the Lanvin show? The hair was parted down the middle, gathered on the side, and plaited into a loose braid. The more pieces that fell out, the better the hairstyle looked. The same thing was true at the Chanel show where pieces fell from the models’ loose chignons and framed the face beautifully, making the look appear soft and touchable. At Oscar de la Renta, the models’ hair was parted down the middle, slicked down on the sides and tucked behind the ears. The rest of the hair was curled and then brushed out into lovely, loose waves. At Versace, the hair was parted down the middle once again and tucked behind the ears, but this time the hair was straight and shiny.

These easy breezy hairstyles were also all about texture. Ponytails are so easy to do, but what was so lovely about the hair at Gucci’s AW 2011 show was that the ponytails were slicked back, amped up a bit, and made a little more glamourous by having a roughed up texture that was created through crimping and teasing the tail. The classic ponytail was given a fresh new makeover. If you didn’t like the big, fluffy look of those ponytails, though, then you must have loved Marc Jacobs’ take on the high ponytail. The hair was pulled tight and slicked back, and the tail was straight, smooth, and shiny.

The ponytail has been spotted once again at Derek Lam’s Spring/Summer 2012 show. The models were given a deep side part and their hair was slicked and smoothed on the sides, gathered at the nape of the neck, and pulled into a low ponytail that looked sleek and sophisticated.

The hair was also slicked back at the Spring/Summer 2012 Victoria Beckham show, but instead of being pulled into a ponytail, it was left loose in the back. At DKNY, the models’ hair was tucked under big hats but kept in long, loose waves. The hair didn’t even appear dried at the recent Alexander Wang show. It was parted in the middle and kept wet, as if the models had just jumped out of the shower and onto the runway. Here’s hoping that these easy hairstyles stay in style a lot longer than the time it takes to do them.
