So it’s official, Hedi Slimane has hung his Saint Laurent hat up and has departed the fashion house, making his AW16 show his final collection. Rumours have been circulating for months, and it has now been confirmed that YSL’s creative and image director is departing.
Hedi has certainly left a large footprint to follow, after being the the mastermind behind four years of creations. His last show during Paris Fashion Week had an air of ‘goodbye’ to it, with its huge statement to all who criticised his indy-grunge ways. In a huge change-up that some might have even thought to be a slight mocking toward the fashion industry; Hedi’s AW16 collection went back to the 80’s with its crazily oversized shoulder pads, lots colours and big belts.
Hedi Slimane went out on a high, that’s certainly true. But who’s next in line? Saint Laurent have said they will soon announce Slimane’s successor, but obviously the rumour mill is already churning; and the current favourite is thought to be Anthony Vaccarello. The Belgian designer has bought electrifying tailoring mixed with sexy rock chick vibes to his current fashion house, Versus.
Whoever will score the top job with one of the worlds most famous fashion houses next, we are waiting eagerly to find out…
