Last night Henry Holland unveiled his newly designed Magnum dress during the ice cream brand’s 25th birthday party at Home House in London. Only 25 of this exclusive dress (worth £5000 each) have been made, inspired by the classic Magnum choc-ice. One was given away at the party, and the remaining 24 will be won in a variety of locations over the summer.

Gizzi Erskine took to the decks for the evening, providing a DJ set that keep the party-goers dancing well into the early hours.

The dress itself is a 60s-inspired shift dress, with a charcoal pointed collar. Holland had expressed concerns when initially approached by Magnum, his first question being would he have to work with brown? Anyone who has become familiar with Henry Holland’s designs, will know that techni-colour is his palette of choice. Brown? It has barely graced a Holland collection at all. Nevertheless, he made it through, embellishing his design with clustered large sequins, all hand-stitched by his team.

According to Holland, his inspiration was the first bite of a Magnum, recreated for television adverts across the years, the cracking and the splintering of ice-cold chocolate. The sections of chocolate coloured sequins are cut through with a cream tone, to represent the melting ice cream beneath.

Another version of the dress has been made of chocolate and is entirely edible. A whole dress of indulgent chocolate, ready to be picked apart, or a designer dress worth thousands? It’s a close call.

Keep your eyes on the Magnum website for news of each competition to win one of the dresses that will crop up over the course of the summer and track with the #MagnumDressCode hashtag on Twitter.
