The holiday season is always one of the best times of the year for dressing up. There are office parties, family gatherings and New Year’s Eve to look forward to so we all need to revamp our wardrobes to keep up with the trends… But how do we get outfits that look great but don’t cost an arm and a leg? Savvy shopping, that’s how!

Take the most common event during the holiday season, the office party. The most common assumption is that you do one of the two extremes: jazz up your outfit so much that it is not work-appropriate, or just wear what you had on earlier in the day. Neither are okay!

You need to find a dress that with a bit more shine to it like this little black dress from Debenhams for £40. The cut is flattering, and it’s not too short to wear to work. Try the look with sexy black heels, and a simple clutch to make everyone do a double-take at the office.

If your friends are coming in town, or you’ve got a meeting with the girls for lunch during this holiday season, ideally casual looks should be more festive than just jeans. However that doesn’t mean you can’t be comfortable.

Try a chunky knit sweater that will keep you warm, and easily coordinate it with a long maxi skirt and boots of your choice. Our favourite are these black stretch boots because they do have a bit of a heel, but the classic detail goes with anything. And instead of the usual tote work bag, wearing a cross- body shoulder bag provides enough room for all your personals, but is more comfortable for on-the-go settings.

Black tie dinner parties are the one time that women can really dress up and go all out. So go big or go home!

The dinner party is the time for your to shine, and wear something that fits your personality and gives it a little glamour. Unbelievably, this gold sequin gown is available at River Island for only £80.00, and looks great with party pumps, and a pop coloured clutch.

And last but definitely not least, there are always the family outings. Whether it be a trip to your cousins’, last minute shopping, or a snowball fight, you can always switch up your everyday looks.

The basics to making this outfit casual and comfortable is really about choosing colours. An oversize sweatshirt in grey looks like a regular sweatshirt; but if you wear it in raspberry with skinny zip mustard trousers, the look is anything but plain. Adding shiny patent leather boots gives it a flair, and a turban is a great addition since it’s a style-lover’s closest version of  a trendy winter hat.
