We all watch the catwalks during fashion week to see the latest designs of the best labels, but we also watch it to see the future of fashion. New designers always struggle to be seen during the next hectic weeks, so we’ve made it easy for you and picked out some of the best ones.

London Fashion Week, famous as a platform for new designers, also sponsors New Generation (NEWGEN), which is the world’s first scheme to support new designer talent. Topshop has sponsored NEWGEN since 2001, where designers can receive up to £10,000. The winners for the ready to wear on the catwalks for spring/summer 2010 are: House of Holland, Mark Fast, Mary Katrantzou, Meadham Kirchhoff, and Peter Pilotto. Henry Holland, founder of House of Holland, describes his inspiration for his new collection in three words: “Marriage, Pretty Woman, and Guns & Roses.” In finding inspiration from London Holland describes the people and energy of the city as the most inspiring.

Mary Katrantzou explains her design signatures as “A hyperrealist aesthetic, bold graphics and industrial jewellery.” In describing what makes London so unique she says, “It has a great energy and a fantastic support system for new designers to push forward.”

Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff create the perfect English and French liaison. They describe the Meadham Kirchhoff woman as “uncompromising, aware, and individual.” The Peter Pilotto label, with designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos behind it, is a mixture of otherworldly prints combined with soft shapes and was named one of the “The Ten Most Promising New Talents” by Style.com. They describe their customer as ageless, with a colorful spirit. The pair’s inspiration stems from the costumes of the Russian Ballets of the 1920’s.

London Fashion Week runs from 18th-22nd Sept.
