The weekend may be over, but what a weekend it was!  London Fashion Week is officially in full swing and we’ve been glued to its initial shows, ranging from Vivienne Westwood to Christopher Kane. Here are our top picks…

Vivienne Westwood
Who was there?
As always, Westwood attracted an array of celebrity friends and supporters at her Red Label runway show in London over the weekend.  Revelers included Kanye West and girlfriend Amber Rose, Nicola Roberts, Lily Cole, David Walliams, and Erin O’Connor.  The show even incorporated Jo Wood, the estranged wife of Rolling Stone guitarist Ronnie Wood, as a guest model.

The Look
The eccentric Brit designer brought the classroom to the runway with the debut of her new collection at London Fashion Week.  An array of school-girl inspired blazers, miniskirts, and suits prowled the catwalk.  Westwood’s long-time use of exaggerated shoulders appeared on a number of dresses, while her famous corsets were spotted under jackets and paired with miniskirts.  Note to school girls across the country: don’t try these naughty looks at home!

Graeme Black

The up and coming designer (and ex-assistant to Giorgio Armani!) displayed his Natural History Museum-inspired collection at the prestigious Spencer House over the weekend.  The intimate viewing is rumoured to have been swarmed by international buyers from around the world who are well aware of Black’s fashion experience and potential as a free-lance designer.

The Look

When describing his Fall 2009 collection, Black told UK Vogue, “I wanted to create a rock solid, gem of a collection inspired by elements discovered in the Natural History Museum.”  And the designer did just that!  His cascading dresses came in hues of blues and greys, resembling rocks and waterfalls while his three piece suits mimicked the reds, golds, and browns of volcanic lava.  Overall, we thought this radioactive set of womenswear was the most creative and daring

collections to hit the runway.

Actress Sienna Miller teamed up with her designer sister, Savannah, for their fashion label’s first ever runway show on Sunday. The audience at Sunday’s Twenty8Twelve show was packed with celebrities including Jade Jagger, Courtney Love, Francesca Versace, Alexa Chung, and Twiggy.

The Look
The design duo melded their personal styles into a well-rounded collection of flirty dresses, jackets, tight-fitting denim, and of course, leggings. Backstage at the show, Sienna proudly explained, “These clothes are funky, and there’s something for anyone.”  Our favourite piece was a sparkling emerald minidress that we could totally see Sienna rocking on a night out!

Christopher Kane
Who was there?

Rap singer Kanye West was seen arriving late to the highly anticipated show, but was a good sport and stood to watch the production.  Other Christopher Kane fans included fashion icon Twiggy and Italian Vogue’s Anna Piaggi, both in the front row.

The Look
The designer’s  Autumn collection consists of no-nonsense cocktail attire for the everyday woman.  The sheer dresses came in hues of blacks, whites, and pale pinks with bronze and metallic greens.  On some of the dresses, mesh fabric appears in areas that leave one’s undergarments on display for all.  How scandalous, Christopher!  While racy at times, the great Kane has done it again with another winning collection.
