Hats Off To Ascot

Nancy Dell'Olio in a David Shillings Hat

It was all about the oufits at Royal Ascot Races, and this year some race goers’ fashion’s really surpassed themselves…

Nancy Dell’Olio was dressed in head-to-toe purple, but it doesn’t stop there: her “hat” consisted of a giant swirl of fake orchids pinned to her head as if they were sprouting from her dark hair.  As if to vouch for the hat’s appeal, designer David Shilling said, “They look incredibly real.”  Errr…. yeah.

Katherine Jenkins and fiancé Gethin Jones

In quite the opposite direction, Katherine Jenkins looked lovely and elegant in her red and black ensemble.  She wore a knee-length red dress, simple black pumps, and a dramatic slanted red hat.  But we think her best accessory was her fiancé, Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones.

Anneka Tanaka-Svenska in a 2-foot, 6-pound hat

The most shocking spectacle of the day was undoubtedly the 2-foot hat worn by model Anneka Tanaka-Svenska, which was made of a tower of fake hair, cabbage roses, and strands of pearls. Tanaka-Svenska even admitted she had to take several painkillers after wearing the painful hairpiece for only 2 hours.

What do you think of this year’s crazy hats?
