Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

Yesterday morning the images and details of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty were unveiled and it was announced that Stella McCartney and Sarah Burton will co-chair this year’s event at the Met. The upcoming exhibition of McQueen‘s most iconic work will be on public display at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute starting May 4th through July 31st after the Met Gala on May 2nd.

This British designer most certainly deserves the title of great artist. Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit will feature pieces from each of his collections – from Nihilism in 1994, to his Angels & Demons collection in 2010. Each of his collections evokes an other-worldly beauty.

Andrew Bolton, curator of the Met’s Costume Institute, said: “His fashions were an outlet for his emotions, an expression of the deepest, often darkest, aspects of his imagination. He was a true romantic in the Byronic sense of the word – he channelled the sublime.” Often reminiscent of the Romantic literally tradition with themes of death, decay, and darkness, the exhibition will be arranged thematically and will feature over one hundred examples of his work. The countdown to the most important night in fashion has begun.
