Mimi talks to Ashish Gupta

It’s perhaps Ashish Gupta’s signature sequin look and his careful use of handcrafted pieces that has secured his mass of celebrity fans including the likes of Lily Allen, Madonna and Victoria Beckham to name but a few. His fusion of east meets west is an eclectic mix of luxe sportswear and high octane glamour.

Ashish made his London Fashion Week debut in 2004 and has won the New Generation award three times. Born in Delhi he studied fine art in India and moved to Middlesex to do a BA in Fashion Design. He planned to work in Paris but his plans were scupered when his portfolio and cash were stolen at the Gare Du Nord in Paris. He then began making clothes for friends until he was spotted by Yeda Yun, then of Browns Focus, who gave him his first order in 2001. We spend 60 seconds with Ashish Gupta.
