Mischa Barton counts herself as one of her growing fans and we love her spring/summer collection. We recently caught up with South African born designer Michelle Goldie, founder of hot new London based label Goldie. It’s her clever mix of rock chic, coupled with floaty feminine chiffon and beaded embellishment, that make her designs so unique and wearable. We asked this stylish lady about her career so far and managed to steal a few style tips along the way. Read on to find out more…

How did you get started?

When I first came to London I saved and bought myself my first sewing machine. I could never find any ‘going out’ clothes that I liked so I started making my own. I went out one night to a club with one of my tops and met a girl that knew an investor that wanted to start a clothing label so after a few meetings he invested in us. I was there for a year and then left to start my own label, taking the experience I had learnt there with me. I started hand making pieces and selling them at Portobello Market and then after a couple of years I couldn’t keep up with the demand, so I  found a factory and started slowly getting pieces made up and now I do seasons.

Did you always want a career in fashion?
I always knew somewhere inside that I was going to end up in fashion as I grew up surrounded by it. My mother had, and still has a garment  manufacturing factory in our house in south Africa, and I started making clothes when I was eight years old.

Highlight of your career so far?
Stocking in Selfridges, and the best thing is… they approached me.

Describe the quintessential Goldie Girl…
The Goldie Girl is in her teens to late 30′s. She is drawn to feminine and flirty clothing that remains functional. Pieces that can be dressed up or down to create a personal statement. She dresses according to mood and lights up any room.

Do you have a celebrity following?
I approached Mischa Barton in Topshop and told her I have a label. She gave me her PA’s telephone number and I have been sending her clothes ever since! She always tells me how much she loves my pieces and is often spotted out wearing them.
