KJ's Laundry

Meet Kate Alden and Jane Ellis owners of uber chic boutique KJ’s Laundry in London. Vogue called it ‘A treasure box boutique’ and that’s just what it is, brimming with niche new designers from around the world it’s like a slice of fashionable Soho in New York, but right here in London. Make sure it’s your next fashionable stop. We caught up with one half of KJ’s Laundry Jane Ellis, to talk about shopping and fashion tips for the season ahead, read on for more…

How did you get started?
We wanted to bring a touch of New York to London.  Kate Alden and I met when working on product design at Disney and felt there wasn’t a boutique that offered edgy and wearable daywear that was individual and affordable.  The kind of place where we would want to shop!

KJ’s Laundry stocks some fabulous niche brands, where do you find them?
We source our stock from all over the world, NY, Europe, Australia and Japan and travel to as many fashion weeks as possible. Now we’re a bit more established we find that designers approach us which is great.

How do you decide which brands make it onto the shop floor at KJ’s Laundry, do you look at putting labels together on the shop floor?
We try to source labels that aren’t stocked in many places or that are exclusive to us. We also only stock labels that we would wear ourselves. Yes we try to buy labels that sit together so that customers can buy complete outfits if they want to.

What investment piece is at the top of your wish list for Spring/Summer 09?
A Mike and Chris denim jacket and some LD Tuttle ankle boots…Sorry am i allowed two pieces???
