He’s currently at the helm of Diane Von Furstenberg as Creative Director and has had his own namesake label since 2005. For Autumn/Winter 09 Jenden went back to black with a show titled ‘Frostbite’ with echoes of the 80’s and a dominatrix edge. We caught up with the man himself to talk fashion and Elizabeth I as a fashion icon. Read on to find out more…

How did you get started?
I always wanted to work in fashion – I started sketching when I was in school which led me to Central Saint Martins and then to Paris and now New York. I always knew what I wanted to do.
 
Describe the quintessential Nathan Jenden Woman…
A girl with attitude and natural class – not something she was born into but something she was born with.

What inspired your latest collection?
Ice Crystals under the Microscope.

What is your favourite part of the design process?
After the show is finished – you’ve already started to think about the next one.

Which trend do you think will dominate Autumn/Winter 09?
Lady Punk – Lots of zips and safety pins.

Elizabeth I– She has a good look! 

How would you describe your personal style?
Englishman in New York.

Where do you like to shop?
 I don’t have time to shop.

What must have item should every woman have in her wardrobe?
 A Black Nathan Jenden Jacket!

What do you think is the biggest fashion faux pas?
Birkenstocks with Socks.

Most memorable moment in fashion so far…
My first Galliano Show – It was amazing.

Who are your favourite designers?
Comme des Garcons and Cristobal Balenciaga.
 
Any new designers that we should keep our eyes and ears out for?
I think there’s a new energy in fashion – but I think it’s a general movement.
