New York Fashion Week So Far…

New York Fashion Week is in full swing for the Autumn/Winter 2012-13 season and there have most certainly been some varied collections… both good and bad!

The Good

Why start off on a bad note?! There have been a few collections we’ve loved and so far they’ve been from the ever-popular Victoria Beckham (David on the front row and the new Harper bag helped), Monique Lhuillier, Jenny Packham, Dianne von Furstenberg and Preen.

Victoria Beckham brought us a military inspired collection with some great subtle shots of colour, exposed zips and the brand new luxury handbag, the Harper, inspired by her new baby girl (you can see it on the far right).

We loved the slimline cuts, open sleeve details and, of course, the lovely red lips!

Dianne von Furstenberg gave us a great show for Autumn/Winter and there were some fab injections of bold colours and feminine floatly lines.

We loved the turquoise shift dress and super luxy, charcoal sequin gown.

If Monique Lhuillier’s gown’s don’t make it to the Oscar’s red carpet this year we’ll eat our hats. There were some lovely tailors trouser suits but it was the gowns that got us. Beautiful burnt shades or reds, plums and oranges dominated and we’ve fallen in love.

Preen gave us a bit more sport than sleek and we’re big fans. There were blocks or oranges and khakis contrasted by lovely prints and their take on a new variant on the houndstooth. All very wearable and all very nice!

Lastly, where would we be without Jenny Packham (who’s set to design for Debenhams by the way!) who brought us a stunning catwalk full of gowns you could see Kate Middleton opting for again! Again… we can only imagaine how many of these will hit the Oscars’ red carpet.

The Bad

Marc Jacobs WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. I know that a lot of people will commend him for his efforts, however this collection can barely be called ready-to-wear. You could wear one of those hats (designed by milliner Stephen Jones) out of your front door let alone use public transport in one…. unless you were potentially on the set of The Muppets. Nice colour palette but the tailoring could only ever suit a rake, no normal sized woman could pull off those bulbous skirts…

Which designers do you think will make the Oscar’s Red Carpet? Our vote goes to Packham and Lhullier…
