With a string of new collections hitting the runway, we bring you the latest from Paris Fashion Week.  We have the scoop on some of our favourite shows including top design houses Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, Hussein Chalayan, and Christian Lacroix.  Enjoy!

Yves Saint Laurent
Who was there?
Yesterday’s YSL runway show at the Palais de Tokyo could very well have been the most star studded audience at PFW yet.  Claudia Schiffer, Kanye West, Milla Jovovich, Anna Wintour, Rachel Zoe, and Mario Testino were all spotted in the front row.

The Look
Stefano Pilati, YSL’s creative director, based their fall?winter 09 line on one of Saint Laurent’s staple looks, the motorcycle jacket.  From here, we saw the collection evolve into jumpsuits, loose-fitting trousers, pristine blouses, and even a leather corset.  Pilati has already received rave reviews for his ability to translate the effortless style of french chic into his latest YSL presentation.

Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney
Who was there?

A well-rounded bunch of celebs showed up to support McCartney at what some are calling her best show in a long time.  Front row revelers included Thandie Newton, Beth Ditto, Salma Hayek, Pink, and Twiggy.

The Look
McCartney went back to her label’s roots of dressing the working woman with her fall/winter collection.  We saw everything from pretty slipdresses to beautifully draped coats, all paired with sky high vegan leather boots (yes, vegan!).  The designer’s ability to create clothes that any woman would feel sexy, yet powerful wearing came through with this line.

Hussein Chalayan
Who was there?

Followers of the always daring Brit designer, which included Kanye West, Amber Rose, and reporters from all of the top news agencies around the globe, were seen at the Chalayan’s PFW presentation.

The Look
Never one to keep his designs conventional, Chalayan amazed us once again with his over-the-top, innovative approach to fashion.  His fall 2009 ready-to-wear collection incorporated his love for technology-based fabrics (coats were made with acetate foam!) and were inspired by the urban streets of London.  With prints of fences, asphalt, and manhole covers, it’s hard to say if Chalayan’s looks could work in the real world on real women.  Luckily, the designer mixed in a few practical pieces including black blazers, coats, and leather jackets.

Christian Lacroix

Christian Lacroix
Who was there?

Christian Lacroix’s showcase at PFW may have been off the beaten path (the show took place at an inner-city car park), but this didn’t keep fashion enthusiasts from around the world from attending.  Big names like photographer Mario Testino, American stylist Rachel Zoe, and British Vogue’s Lucinda Chambers were all spotted at the presentation.

The Look
Lacroix’s autumn 09 ready-to-wear line shared similarities with his beautifully, yet dainty couture collections, but was scaled down enough for the average woman to wear with ease.  The designer worked his charm with standout pieces including bow-clad party dresses, baggy cardigans, and pantsuits.  Out of all the Lacroix looks, our favourite was the V-neck peacoat paired with lace tights.
