Sadly, we’ve arrived at the end of the fashion frenzy season.  Yet, the age old saying holds true and we’ve saved the best for last with Paris Fashion Week.  Over the weekend, a number of high profile designers showcased their collections in the city of love and we wanted to share with you some of our favourite shows including Balenciaga, Vivienne Westwood, Lanvin, and Christian Dior.

Balenciaga
Who was there?

The Balenciaga show at Paris Fashion Week brought out a number of high powered celebs including Salma Hayek and her billionaire husband Francois-Henri Pinault.  Other fashion savvy gawkers included Melanie Laurent, actors Pascal Gregory and Amira Casar, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour.

The Look
Creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, took note from Balenciaga’s Spanish inspired roots for the fall/winter 2009 line.  The collection, which ranged from charmeuse skirts to tuxedo jackets, was full of innovative takes on past collections.  We, like many others I’m sure, feel that Balenciaga’s printed wrap dresses were some of the most awe-inspiring pieces at PFW.

Pamela Anderson at Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood
Who was there?
An intricate part of Westwood’s Paris showcase was none other than blond bombshell Pamela Anderson.  After bonding over environmental issues in the past few years, Westwood asked the actress to appear in her runway show and help stir up the type of political controversy she has become known for.  Anderson was seen strutting the catwalk in a t-shirt that read +5 degrees, making reference to the rising temperatures around the world due to CO2 emissions.  Fashion AND global warming awareness?  All in a day’s work for these two!  Other celebs spotted at the show included Beth Ditto, Georgia Jagger, and Peaches Geldof.

The Look
Westwood’s autumn/winter 2009 line contained her usual range of rocker chic pieces including cropped trousers, over sized blazers, and funky boots.  Yet, we saw a refreshing sense of sophistication with the designer’s draped wool dresses and tweed coats.

Lanvin

Who was there?
The Lanvin show attracted a string of celebrity revelers. Kristin Scott Thomas and Jade Jagger were seen in the front row alongside French Vogue’s Carine Roitfeld and photographer Mario Testino.  International buyers from high-end retailers Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue were also spotted along the catwalk.

The Look
Lanvin’s creative director, Alber Elbaz, was inspired by the feminine silhouettes of the forties for legendary design house’s autumn/winter line.  His dark palette of blacks, browns, and navy’s paired with fabrics such as cashmere, satin, and sheepskin brought modern elegance to ready-to-wear dresses, blouses, and coats.  The shows’ last look, a long and lean velvet black number, had the audience at the edge of their seats.

Christian Dior
Who was there?

Sitting in the front row at the Dior spectacle was the face of J’Adore Dior, Charlize Theron, Bond girl Eva Green, and model Milla Jovovich.

The Look
With Saturday’s Christian Dior show, we saw creative director John Galliano orchestrate one of his best shows yet.  Exquisitely constructed drop-waisted skirts, embellished dresses, and fur-trimmed coats strutted the Parisian runway.  Almost stealing the show was the oriental influenced hair and makeup.  The Dior models had dramatically penciled-in eyebrows and glistening helmets made entirely of bobby pins.
