Designer Bio…

In 1952 this unusually creative French designer was born and at just 14-years-old he was sketching his ideas on paper. He was sending his sketches to couture stylists for 2-3 years when Pierre Cardin took notice of his talents and hired him as his assistant in 1970.

Gaultier’s first collection was released in 1976, which showed off his quirky and creative designs. He made his mark on the runway with his 1997 haute couture line showing his extreme use of cultures to inspire his collection. The French Fashion House, Hermes, scooped Gaultier up and named him the creative director after this. I guess we can say it’s history from there, right? He has also been known to grace his runways with the not so usual stick thin models, but with more curvy women.

One more thing…remember Madonna’s famous cone bra from her Blonde Ambition Tour? Well, that creation came from Gaultier.

This year at Paris Fashion Week, Gaultier didn’t disappoint with his creative abilities. The models wore massive grey beehive styled wigs.  They were the epitome of Parisian chic wearing belted trench coats and amazing tweed jackets, complimenting a genuine working woman who likes to show off her retro-chic side. Gaultier proved it’s alright to get older and still rock it!

Who was spotted in the front row: Kanye West, Nicole Richie, La Roux’e Elly Jackson.
