Ladies, we can at long last breathe a sigh of relief: the kitten heel is back on the prowl. And it is joined by a whole host of lower, more comfortable footwear, including clogs, brogues, cowboy boots, loafers and trainers

It’s been all about vertiginous heels for some time now: no longer a fashion footnote, they have become an integral part of a woman’s wardrobe. They may be bad for the feet, but as British shoe designer Terry DeHavilland says: “They’re good for the mind.” And women have willingly put up with the pain (admittedly not without complaining, a lot) for the stiletto’s wondrous leg-lengthening and calf-slimming powers.

But the catwalks came over all practical for spring/summer 2010 with Marni, Lanvin and even the red-soled master Louboutin joining the sensible shoe revolution. Whoever said pretty can’t be powerful hadn’t seen these models strut their stuff down the runway in the comparatively meagre heel
