Diane Von Furstenberg has issued guidelines to ensure models are treated well during Fashion Week.

The 64-year-old designer released the recommendations on behalf of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) – of which she is president – to make sure women walking the catwalk are not under 16 or in danger of suffering from an eating disorder.

Her advice includes educating the industry to spot the early warning signs of someone developing a body-image related illness and supplying healthy meals and snacks backstage and at shoots.

Famous for creating the wrap dress – which flatters a woman’s curves – Diane’s tips also include workshops on the industry for models and their families and not allowing those under 18 to work past midnight at fittings or shoots.

She told Racked magazine: “Our choices can have positive consequences on the lives of women. A healthy mind in a healthy body is a healthy life! Choose health and diversity.”

The iconic businesswomen is upbeat and ready for Fashion Week despite suffering injuries in a skiing accident earlier this month in which her nose was broken and face fractured after a less experienced skier collided with her – and has been relying on her trusted creative director Yvan Mispelaere.

She said: “Thank god I have Yvan Mispelaere in the sample room.”
