To celebrate National Seafood Week (which is actually 2 weeks 4-20 October) the rather amazing Alfred Prasad, head chef of the lovely Tamarind Restaurant, has put together a stunning new menu, showcasing the oceans finest; including lobster tail, fresh crab and monkfish.

I was lucky enough to get a sneaky preview of the menu. The beautiful starters included battered tiger prawns, chilli, ginger and red onion crab cakes with a smoked tomato chutney and a truly beautiful monkfish kebab, which was marinated in a vibrant, clean tasting marinade that was made from fresh coriander and spices, cooked to utter perfection and served with a refreshing green chutney. The fish curries were sublime;  a Goan fish curry of red snapper, ground coconut and curry leaves, which tasted wonderfully nutty and slightly peppery and a Lobster masala, which was succulent and sweet, with a rich masala of onions, tomatoes, cumin and other spices, my favourite of the lot!

Tamarind will be serving the seafood selection alongside the regular a la carte menu so you can mix and match as you like.  The restaurant is beautifully simple and relies on the food, which is real Indian food, cooked to the highest level, with a modern twist – avoiding gee, nuts and cream. I really enjoyed seeing such classic Indian dishes on the menu rather than “contemporary” ones. I love my Indian food and can’t recommend Tamarind enough.
