GQ Men of the Year Awards’ Cocktails

The fifteenth annual GQ Men of the Year awards may have centered around this year’s most dashing and dapper gents, and while the ladies’ stunning dresses certainly caught our eye, the foodie in all of us secretly wondered what heavenly nectars they all sipped at such a posh red carpet event.
Although held at the ever impressive London’s Royal Opera House, the Tanqueray bar, located on the Amphitheater Terrace, soon became the night’s true venue to be seen at, with over 850 attendees, including Olympic cyclist Bradley Wiggins seen with model and actress Kelly Brook and actor Damian Lewis.
Like the night’s guests, the Tanqueray is an award-winner as well, receiving the Best Gin and Double Gold Medal awards at the 2012 San Francisco Spirits competition. All cocktails on offer were created using Tanqueray London Dry and Tanqueray No. Ten, which is acknowledged as one of the world’s best white spirits, unrivalled in it’s taste, balance, and flavor.
Tanqueray served up three of their very best drinks. The night started in style with a classic Tanqueray and Tonic, served in the distinctively bowl shaped copa glass, to enhance the aromas and flavours of Tanqueray’s key botanicals.
Guests were also offered the Tanqueray No. Ten Julep a lovely citrus blend sure to please those who enjoy pink grapefruit. Lastly on offer was the Bloomsbury Punch, a invigorating and tropical rhubarb cocktail. It was certainly the night’s signature drink, made in honour of the Editor of GQ Dylan Jones and in commemoration of 15 years of the GQ Awards.
Fancy a try? Below are the recipes to all three of the GQ Men of the Year cocktails, sure to please:
TANQUERAY AND TONIC
- 50ml Tanqueray London Dry Gin
- Fever-Tree tonic
Take your measure of Tanqueray London Dry Gin and pour it through freshly cut lime. Top with Fever-Tree tonic and add lots of ice.
TANQUERAY NO. TEN JULEP
- 50ml Tanqueray No. Ten
- 15ml Pamplemousse Rose Liquer (red grapefruit)
- 25ml Fresh Pink Grapefruit Juice
- Sprig of mint
- Pink grapefruit slice
Using a shaker, mix Tanqueray No. Ten, fresh pink grapefruit juice and Pamplemousse Rose Liquer to tease out the fresh citrus fruit within the award-winning No. Ten.
Pour into an old fashioned glass and top with crushed ice.
THE BLOOMSBURY PUNCH
- 35ml Tanqueray London Dry Gin
- 15ml Aperol
- 35ml Fresh rhubarb juice
- 10ml Fresh lemon juice
- Dash of rhubarb bitters
- Slice of rhubarb
Add all of the ingredients into a punch dispenser, stir to circulate the botanicals and flavors, add ice and strain into a coupette.
