The Brompton Bar and Grill

The Brompton Bar and Grill

I’ve been looking for a laid back restaurant that retains an element of sophistication for a while now without any luck. You know, the kind of place you could go on a date to without having to worry too much about the menu, decor, atmosphere etc too much. Well, I’ve finally stumbled across just the place on Brompton Road, the Brompton Bar and Grill.

Inside, there’s a compact dining space and slick bar with monochromatic decor and a simple, intimate table layout (it actually won ‘The It Room’ Award at The Tatler Restaurant Awards in 2010). The staff were very friendly and welcomed us to our table straight away. As we perused the menus we opted for a fabulous bottle of Sancerre which was beautifully fresh and perfect for my companion and I as the weather outside was far too hot for our liking! We each opted for different items on the menu to put the place to the test and I can safely say we were both very happy with all our choices.

For starters my companion opted for Potted Shrimp and I opted for an amazing Beetroot cured Smoked Salmon dish with citrus vinaigrette and a Dil Crème Fraiche. The beetroot salmon was really interesting and not something I would have usually chosen, but it was tart and delicious so I wasn’t complaining! We then moved on to a Filet steak and Soy and Honey Glazed Duck breast with Seasame sauce. My steak was very tender but my companion’s duck was the choice meal for the main course; it was brilliantly succulent, if not a little rich.

Fancy an Absinthe cocktail?

At this point we could barely move but were tempted by the amazing sounding Crème Brûlèe and Sticky Toffee pudding, which were both heavenly and the perfect ending to our meal.

I’d definitely recommend heading down to the Brompton Bar and Grill if you’re looking for a good meal without the fuss and it would be the perfect place to have a first date… if not only for the brand new Absinthe Bar downstairs which has just opened and would let you carry on your evening a little longer if you fancied it, especially on the Jazz nights. Just watch out for that Green Fairy, it might not be so kind on your first outing with a potential love interest!
