Before Tom Cruise went all weird and couch surfing on us, we LOVED his Mission Impossible films. Well it’s good news for anyone that’s still a fan as the next installment, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, is here and we’ve got the brand new, literally JUST released trailer for you.

J.J. Abrams produced the film, which is based in Dubai and sees Tom scaling some serious architecture, and if his previous work is anything to go by (think Lost, Mission Impossible III and Star Trek), we’re in for a treat! Simon Pegg also stars.

Katie Holmes in Miami

While living in Miami as husband Tom Cruise films his new movie Rock of Ages, Katie Holmes has taken to the breezy, casual style of the city.

Abandoning her usual feminine dresses and conservative basics, Holmes has taken to bright swimwear, colourful cover-ups and chic accessories.

The 32-year-old was seen leaving a restaurant today wearing a trendy straw fedora, cream wide-leg pants, and sweet white crochet top – with just enough sheerness to reveal a black bra underneath.

Now this is how to do the sheer look… it adds just a tiny bit of edge.  Maybe Tamara Beckwith could take a few pointers? See her horrible rendition here.

Maria Shriver on Oprah

Madonna, Tom Cruise and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s estranged wife Maria Shriver were among the stars at the taping of Oprah Winfrey’s final chat show episodes.

Around 13,000 people attended the recording at the United Centre in Chicago – for two shows that will air on May 23 and 24, ahead of the last episode on May 25 – and saw the galaxy of celebrities pay tribute to the inspirational television presenter yesterday (17.05.11).

Cruise – who famously jumped up and down on the couch on the ‘Oprah Winfrey Show’ while discussing his love for Katie Holmes – claimed the 57-year-old personality taught people how to “change” themselves.

He told the audience: “You have always had the power to change lives. And that is the lesson you brought.”

Madonna revealed she admired Oprah because she was a “self made woman” who has shown people that hard work and determination pay off.

She said: “It’s no secret that millions of people are inspired by Oprah. She’s a self-made woman who’s been at the top of her game for over 25 years and she is still kicking ass and encouraging people to dream big to work hard, to read a book, to ask questions, to get an education no matter who you are or where you come from.”

Maria – who recently split from ‘Terminator’ actor Arnold after it was revealed he had fathered a secret love child with a member of their household staff – came on stage with Oprah’s friend Gayle King.

Speaking to the chat show host, Maria said: “You have given me love, support, wisdom and most of all truth.”

Jamie Foxx serenaded Oprah with a version of ‘Isn’t She Lovely‘, before the song’s original writer Stevie Wonder rose up from under the stage to perform a new track he had written specifically for her.

Beyonce Knowles also sang her new hit ‘Run the World (Girls)‘, while Josh Groban and Patti LaBelle sang ‘Over the Rainbow’ from ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

It was also announced at the end of the tapings that 25 new libraries are to be built across the US in Oprah’s honour, while Diane Sawyer added 25,000 oak trees will be planted in tribute to her.

Knight and Day 2010

If you’re planning a relaxing night out at the movies this weekend, then you’ll be delighted to know that there are several new films hitting cinemas this week.

In the mood for an action film with a bit of romance?  Then check out Knight and Day starring Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise.  In the movie, Diaz plays a woman who gets accidentally thrown into the adventures of the sexy but potentially psychotic Ray Miller, a secret spy played by Tom Cruise, and it looks as if there will be an on-screen love affair between the two. 

Step Up 3D

Also in theatres this week is Step Up 3-D, a continuation of the street-dancing movie series, revamped with a new cast – including hot newcomers Rick Malambri and Sharni Vinson – and special 3-D effects.   

Another exciting release this week is the Cannes Film Festival favorite, Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, a French romantic drama detailing the passionate love affair of world-famous designer Coco Chanel and influential classical musician Igor Stravinsky.  The film stars Anna Mouglalis as Chanel and Mads Mikkelson as Stravinsky.  It looks steamy…

And if you don’t feel like heading to the theatre, you can also pick up several new DVD’s this week, including Dear John, the romantic drama starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, and Repo Men an action-thriller featuring Jude Law and Forrest Whitaker.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are planning to appear in a reality TV show to prove to the world their family is “normal”.

The Hollywood star has reportedly been filming his wife and their four-year-old daughter Suri and intends to use the footage to show the world what life is really like in the Cruise household in a series inspired by ‘The Osbournes’.

Tom is particular keen to show that his family’s lifestyle is not weird just because they follow controversial sci-fi faith Scientology.

A source close to the couple told Britain’s Grazia magazine: “They want to portray themselves as a normal family who do normal things. They are aware that Katie is being perceived as ‘brainwashed’ and they want to change that.”

The 48-year-old actor got the idea to start filming Katie, 31, and Suri after making several online clips with Cameron Diaz to promote their new film ‘Knight and Day’.

Tom initially wanted to release his footage as mini-clips on the internet for his loyal fans but he has now received multiple offers to turn the videos into a full series.

A source said: “His interest began when he made spoof films with Cameron to promote ‘Knight and Day’. He’s been filming Kate and other aspects of their life for the past month. The original impetus was that he would select a few personal clips to show fans, but word has got out through his agents (CAA) and he is currently fielding offers from entertainment companies. Tom is now deliberating what to do with his footage. No deal has been struck yet.”

However, Tom – who married Katie in November 2006 – is insisting on having complete control of the footage and the final say on what is aired.

A source said: “Tom places a premium on control, so he’s reluctant to commit to doing a reality TV show unless he’s 100 per cent it will reflect him and Katie in the best possible light.”

Knight and Day is an action-comedy centred on a fugitive couple (Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz) that are on a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure, where nothing and no one – even themselves – are what they seem.

Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, they race across the globe, with their survival ultimately hinging on the battle of truth vs. trust.

This film looks like a must-see, even if it’s just for the action sequences! So for a bit of comedic action, hit the cinemas on 6th August to catch the film!

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes at the 2010 National Movie Awards

Tom Cruise, the actor famed for his roles in films such as Top Gun and Mission Impossible, has revealed a bit more about his childhood and how it wasn’t always smooth running.

The 47-year-old star claims he had a troubled relationship with his father saying: “I didn’t want to just write the guy off. He was lost. I can’t speak specifically in terms of why and how he got to where he was – that was his journey.”

“All I can tell you is that he was overwhelmed by life… My mother basically did all the work, and then they got separated and I didn’t see him for a long  time. He didn’t try and help the family financially or spiritually, and I lived with the effects of the chaos.”

However, Cruise did visit his estranged father on his death bed, just after he’d made it big with Risky Business in 1983. The actor told American Esquire magazine: “I hadn’t seen my father in about ten years. I found out he was dying, and I went to see him in the hospital. He knew that he’d blown it. There was a deep regret. I think he was torturing himself.”

However Cruise did always have his mother and sisters, whom he relied on a lot as he found it very hard to find ‘lifelong friends’ due his overly mobile lifestyle. He claims he was very protective of the girls in his family, especially if they were ever picked on.

He said: “If anyone was teasing my sisters, I really felt it… I’d create different characters and ad-lib sketches to make my sisters and my mother feel better. I’d try to make them laugh. I’d do Donald Duck as John Wayne.”

 So there you go folks, a little insight into the life on Tom Cruise. It’s quite refreshing to hear him talk about his life as a layman rather than the incredible superstar he is now. Although it didn’t stop him try to quash the negative rumours around his marriage again!

He said: “Every night before we go to sleep, Kate and I look at each other and it’s like. ‘How’d we do today?’”

Eugh, TomKat pillowtalk, how disturbing.

Knight and Day, the new action-comedy flick starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz is out in cinemas on 6^th August and we’ve got a clip of the pair rehearsing for their strenuous stunt routines.

It sounds like it has potential but we definitely didn’t expect Cameron coming out on top in this video… It seems to be a running theme this week!
