Whether you need to get into a bikini or just those skinny jeans Bikini Bootcamp at The Grove is just brilliant fun. Going to The Grove in Hertfordshire for anything is always I treat, I love this hotel, known as London’s Country Estate because it really is so close to London the journey there and back doesn’t spoil your relaxed time unwinding in the gorgeous countryside.

We arrived on Friday night to take part in this special weekend package devised by head of fitness Mike Kitchen and the award-winning Sequoia Spa team. The Grove’s Bikini Boot Camp has been created to provide a fun, motivational kick-start to your exercise regime with some serious, hard-core fitness and nutrition training – with a little touch of Grove luxury, make that a lot of Grove luxury!

It’s probably best to warn you now that there will be no rationing of wine and desserts, not for dinner anyway, your eyes and belly will be tempted by the amazing buffet in the evening. The good thing is though, you have been working so hard all day that you do deserve a treat, well that’s what we thought anyway. And as much as we would happily have spent the evening dining with our lovely trainers we had nobody looking over our shoulders at our plates, but on the second night after we had our nutritional advice from Mark we did eat less and have smaller portions, so we did take notice.

The only teeny down side for me was getting a 6.45am wake up call on Saturday morning…but as soon as the trainers were on and we were walking along the canal and through the woods in the sunshine I was happy to be up and embracing the crisp countryside air. The walk was a good idea and it just woke us up and eased us into what was ahead, thankfully we had a really tasty and healthy breakfast prepared for us before the hard core training started.

Now for the real exercise, next up was The Beach Blitz, or circuit training: think squats, jumping jacks, push-ups and lunges, and cardio, three times around the circuit with a scary game of Dare Dice in between. This would allocate one further (embarrassing) challenge anything from jumping in the outdoor pool or spinning a hula hoop. We did notice a team of very fit footie players in the pool training so whilst they were fabulous eye candy, I had to pretend they weren’t there when I unglamorously dive bombed in, fully clothed in my kit. We had been provided with Baywatch style red bikinis but I was glad I wasn’t trying to pull that look off either with that audience.

Circuits were fun and a good workout, we followed that with a session using fitness balls all outside in the garden, it really was so nice. After a healthy lunch we took bikes out for cross county cycling through the woods, despite screaming like a maniac when I was hurtling downhill trying to find the brake, this was really good fun, I just wanted to do this every Saturday. It felt so great to be outdoors, doing some exercise that wasn’t the same old gym workout and being in a luxury hotel, surrounded by beautiful scenery everywhere you looked and just properly relaxing.

Once all the cardio was done there was stretch and relaxation class and time to enjoy all the first class facilities at the excellent Sequoia Spa. Also included in the price is a Detox Algae Wrap or a Espa Detox Massage, I had the massage, which was actually one of the best I’ve had, and I’ve had a few!

Everything about the weekend was just perfect, it was really well thought out and brilliantly put together, our trainers Mike and Mark were just lovely and I’ve never met and sadly probably never will meet such kind and patient men. They made all the events such good fun but a really good workout at the same time. I haven’t stopped raving about this weekend to everyone and I cannot recommend it enough, it’s such a brilliant idea for a weekend away with your friends, I would book it now if I were you.
