We arrived at CC around 9 in the evening and found Linda, the owner waiting for us with a fresh platter of fruit and cheese and some chilled local wine.  CC is small but perfectly formed, with just 10 suites and an enormous penthouse, you feel like you have been invited to a really special private home.  After getting to know Linda, her husband Samuel and 4 year old Noah you know that’s exactly has happened, you feel part of the family almost instantly.

Linda has the capacity to make you feel totally pampered and cared for without feeling stifled in anyway, her energy and passion for what she has created is really unique and it’s going to be hard to write this without gushing about how much we just loved staying there.

My Penthouse Bed

My Penthouse Bed

The house has been carefully and thoughtfully put together with some antiques and pieces that were found almost 7 years ago, safe in the knowledge that they would be just the perfect wardrobe or sideboard for all the individually designed rooms. Don’t worry about the beds being old though,  these have been sourced from a stay at the penthouse in the Bellagio in Vegas where Linda and Samuel  just knew these were the most comfortable beds they’d ever slept in.

I was shown to the penthouse where I was staying, sadly alone because there was actually room for me and everyone that follows me on twitter. It was so big that I had to schedule extra time before sleep to find and turn all the lamps and lights off at night.  I had 3 plasmas, a dining table to seat  12, a fireplace and a huge living room just for me to run around in, needless to say I wanted to move in permanently. Back to those beds, well  it was like sinking into a marshmallow cloud, not in a back ache in the morning way, but for an insomniac like me I’ve never had my head hit the pillow and just drift off to sleep so naturally before.
After a dream sleep we had breakfast cooked for us by Linda, the long antique table would normally be a place to share breakfast with the other guests, which I think is a nice idea. However when we spent our time there we had the place to ourselves.

Breakfast at Chateau Coralini

Breakfast at Chateau Coralini

Fresh fruit, homemade bircher and French toast stuffed with bananas and strawberries – oh and fresh from the oven cake all for breakfast, of course no matter how good you want to be, it’s a sin to turn any of that down. The next day we had eggs instead with all the trimmings which were equally as delicious.
There is a small quaint spa set in the grounds where we were treated to facials using the totally organic Eminence range from Hungary.  There are samples of this in your room to try along with full size shampoos and soaps, heavy luxurious robes and slippers  are all part of the package.
Throughout the day as we relaxed in the garden we were offered fresh fruit and could help ourselves to anything from the kitchen, we were invited to feel totally at home.  We hung out in the kitchen and chatted to Linda and Samuel  and got to know all about the area and the history of their mission to make the retreat unlike any other.  Accomplished!

The Gazebo

The Gazebo

We didn’t have any wish to leave the property as the countryside setting is just so relaxing and idyllic so at 5pm Linda suggested we might fancy a foot rub in the gazebo with a glass of chilled, local Pinot Noir.
As the gazebo was in the shade we were given fleece blankets to wrap around our shoulders, Linda even made them sound cosier by calling them ‘fuzzies’ and we sipped fabulous red wine made in nearby Monterey and snacked on warm snacks, again fresh from that oven. The kitchen actually has about 4 ovens, which is no surprise considering how much food was being produced in there.
For dinner we were asked what we fancied, there’s no menus, just Linda’s well stocked fridge and built in recipe book in her head. After our appetizers, cheese and fruit we just fancied something light so she knocked up a warm chicken salad which was just perfect.

We got excited about going back to our rooms and our princess and the pea beds for an evening of cable tv and discovering what flavour warm cookies we would have that night, simple pleasures just really make you switch off and relax.  Linda leaves milk and makes a fresh batch of cookies to put in your room every night, I know!

The place that the Samuels have created really is a one of a kind, you just don’t get the kind of personalised treatment and service that was offered here  in many places, nowhere I’ve been in fact. We were totally relaxed and pampered in our short stay and we pretty sad to be leaving. This is the kind of retreat that you would go to for a total pamper, it’s not a health farm there’s too much good food, wine and temptation coming from the smells from those ovens.  But that’s part of the attraction for me, it’s the ideal place for a rejuvenation break, you have no choice but to let Linda and Samuel look after you.

As you sit at the breakfast bar watching Linda bake an apple pie, Samuel will start giving your shoulders a rub (he’s a qualified therapist too) crack open a bottle of local wine  that you drink together and that’s how you start your evening…

As we left, giving everyone a hug we didn’t say goodbye, we said we will definitely see you again soon. I would even quite like to just go and work there baking cookies with Linda in the kitchen, a real find.
