It is a reflection of the types of lives we lead that a breathing and sleep package seems such a good idea and is something we were all desperate for when we met at the airport for our trip. We may take sleep for granted, for some it’s a source of irritation – I have my insomniac phases, which drive me nuts so I was really interested to get some tips that I hadn’t tried before. While we sleep our body regenerates, skin cells renew helping us to keep our skin looking youthful and radiant, as well as affecting weight problems and our general well being.

A short flight over on Aer Lingus, and if you’re lucky you may get Westlife travelling up there behind the pilot like on our return flight. The journey through the beautiful green Irish countryside already starts to release a few knots across the shoulders, especially those email muscles our trainer told us he called them.  That’s if you are a brave enough to leave your Blackberry locked in the safe and to get the full benefit I do suggest you do ( note to self!). On arrival the Hotel Europe reminded me of a modern European hotel that you would find in the Mediterranean, with a huge and light lobby, showing off their best view in one hit, the mountains and lake that the hotel sits on.

I stayed in a huge, stunning suite that I think would have kept P.Diddy happy,  in fact the whole of Westlife could have stayed in it even with VIP luggage as I had 2 dressing rooms, 3 TV’s and one in the bathroom. I do think watching TV from your bath is one of those moments you need to text home about. The best part for me though was the spectacular view I had of those mountains  that changed colour throughout the day and evening and reflected in the still lake surrounding the hotel. The ESPA package has been carefully put together to make sure the diet complemented the treatments, so expect to have a special menu at meal times to encourage you to relax and sleep better.

We arrived mid afternoon and after checking in went straight down to the spa, which really is the star of the show for me, adding the ESPA experience to the hotel really does complete the total luxury 5 star package. The ESPA team just get it, their attention to detail is pretty much faultless and you can see why they have spas in some of the most famous hotels all over the world. Included in the retreat package are 3 super luxurious rituals which I think really make this a relaxing way to switch off and unwind.  Our first treatment took place after dinner, so we had an early dinner at 6.30pm, which suits me perfectly. I hate eating late and I think it is one of the main reasons you lay awake with a full stomach unable to sleep.  If this sounds too early, you must remember this trip is designed to get you to bed early and relax your mind to switch off and soothe yourself to sleep, so you are fully prepared for the early starts.
