Pink Gin Beach La Source Grenada

Pink Gin Beach La Source Grenada

Touching down at Grenada airport means you are 5 minutes by car to La Source, imagine the joy of that short ride after a flight, I almost felt I could wheel my case there.

What about the sound of planes, I hear you ask, I didn’t notice, honestly, the property is on lower ground, on top of the sea and miraculously you can’t hear any airport noise. It could also be the fact that Pina Coladas and all sorts of Caribbean cocktails are on tap throughout the day and the view is so darn mesmerising that you don’t even notice anything outside of the grounds.

Accommodation at La Source is spread over 40 acres of beautiful grounds with a 9 hole golf course that winds around a sports pavilion, a relaxation pavilion and an open air massage area. It has palm trees, a stream and many many tropical trees and flowers, it’s so pretty here. Then you have Pink Gin Beach, which is white sands, aqua sea and a beach bar perched on the edge of it, serving lovely cocktails all day.

One of the unique aspects I found during my stay there was how friendly the staff were and how sociable it made the whole resort, guests spoke to each other comfortably. The staff have a natural friendly attitude, they laugh and joke with you and really make the atmosphere warm. They muck in with so many activities, one minute they could be taking volleyball in the pool, then archery and then hosting the solo table at night. That’s three different outfits in one day,  you just about recognise them.

The large open air lobby/lounge that looks out onto the pool area and the beach changes life throughout the day. As there is no wi-fi in the rooms there is ‘bionic’ connection here, so you will see people relaxing on the comfortable cream sofas with their ipads and laptops. It’s large enough to feel you have some privacy but manages to be this central station where people table hopped and drank cocktails with each other, I’ve never seen a hotel where all the guests got to know each other. So, good news if you are a couple that have that silent couple syndrome by day 2, you can find friends really easily. Even I got chatting to lots of people and I’m a head down, leave me alone sort of gal, I know I sound charming, but I lead a busy London life, really that’s why.

You can be as active as you like, but with the amount of activities available you will find something that takes your fancy. There is an all day schedule of exercise classes including a very good yoga class at 8am every morning. Just the perfect way to start the day, and the class is held overlooking a waterfall and Hibiscus plants, it’s a stunning setting. It’s quite hard to be disciplined with your eating and drinking at an all-inclusive resort, I heard the minimum weight loss for anyone who has taken the ‘Mind Body Reformer’ Programme is 5 pounds in a week! But then I did watch someone have a personal training session with Andy (who represented Grenada boxing in the last Olympics) and I think I can see how, never seem such a strict trainer and lean mean machine at work. So you really can tailor your trip to be exactly what you need, it’s all available under one roof. I lost a few pounds without even trying through regular exercise, yoga, massage and just properly relaxing.

As well as the all-inclusive dining and drinking each guest has a spa treatment every day, it has turned many men into spa addicts now, judging by the ones I talked to. Treatments are varied from back massages, reflexology, Balinese massage, wraps and facials. All the therapists I had were lovely with strong firm hands, there’s no in-house spa range just yet (I hear that could be changing soon) Pevonia is used for facials. What they lack in fancy products they make up for in the consistent quality of service, quite rare in hotels. The star therapist for me was the tiny but strong Surya, from Bali, she was fantastic and I had 4 treatments with her, including a Thai massage which was excellent.

Children under 10 are not  allowed, and for me that was a relaxing change when reading around the pool, I love kids, but if you go away without them and are looking for peace and quiet this is a bonus. There seem to be many many return visitors, including Gill who I met and has been back 27 times, solo travellers are thoroughly looked after and can share a table with fellow single travellers for night time meals and seemed to be making friends really easily. Daytime we can all do our own thing but some people are a bit uncomfortable eating alone, so the newsletter you get delivered to your room each night gives you the name of who is hosting the table each night, and looking over they did seem to be having the best time in the dining room.

In fact there’s a group of people dancing to the Bee Gees, whilst playing pool and drinking cocktails as I type, my toe is tapping, I am that close to joining them…
