Barcelo Billesley Manor Hotel - Pool

Continued…

The hotel’s Stuart restaurant has two AA rosettes, so I had high expectations, and certainly wasn’t disappointed. My starter of crab and spring onion risotto was cooked to perfection, while the main course of beef with roast vegetables was deliciously juicy.

The next morning, I rose early for my treatment at the spa. Visits to the spa are normally my favourite bit about hotel stays, and the Spa at the Barcelo Bilelsey was no exception.  There’s a wide range of reasonably-priced treatments on offer, most of which use Elemis products. I was pleasantly surprised by the early opening time – 7am – and the overall sense of space. The spa is deceptively large, and a quick look around revealed a larger than average swimming pool, sauna and steam room. There’s only three treatment rooms, but the whole place feels distinctly spacious and uncluttered. I opted for the Elemis Herbal Lavender Facial, which used a range of Elemis products to reduce shine, tighten pores and boost radiance. The facial included a fabulous head massage and after the treatment finished, my skin was glowing with health and my pores were visibly smaller. The staff were all super-friendly and my therapist spent a considerable amount of time finding out about my skincare needs – something which is often overlooked.

I ended my stay at the hotel with a hearty breakfast. Although there was a good range of hot food, I was slightly disappointed by the lack of “pain au chocolats, muffins and croissants” promised by the menu – instead there were a few pre-packaged muffins and yoghurts – but to be fair, when I mentioned this to the waitress she eventually produced a plate of pain au chocolats.

Despite some minor niggles, I left the hotel feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and ready for the week ahead. While some of the rooms could certainly use a little tlc, country breaks don’t get much better than this.
