I recently visited Hong Kong and first stop on my list was the Ritz Carlton – housed in the tallest building in HK (and the world’s fourth-tallest).

I won’t bore you with the details but suffice to say the location was lush and the view 1,588 ft up was breathtaking. The hotel gleams with red, gold and onyx set against expansive floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Ritz Carlton is housed in the tallest building in Hong Kong, fab views!

They clearly know their hook at the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong, you can even – if you’re a guy – pee with a view (no pictures I’m afraid, that’d be weird). You can see boats in the harbour, the imposing skyline and then – the strange part of a hyper-modern city where less than 25% of the land is developed – the sloping green hills and mountains of Hong Kong. We got lost on one of those mountains but that’s another post (there was fog, it was terrifying and we were almost run over a few times).

The tables where we had lunch were pushed against a window so there were no arguments over who would get to sit opposite The View – much appreciated.

We had a selection of perfectly-cooked French and Malaysian food (only in Hong Kong..), read the International Herald Tribune and tried desperately not to look out of place by taking covert photos whenever we could. Our waitress saw what I was doing, laughed and pointed at the tables across from me – each one laden with cameras/camera phones. Things were a lot more relaxed after that and it means I have some cool pics to share!

The view as I ate...

I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Hong Kong, we had a full lunch but they do offer a fairly priced Afternoon Tea if you’re budget conscious and/or have a sweet tooth.
