The Travelling Prince – Return to Ocean Drive

His Highness was keen to return to the Hotel Ocean Drive on the island of Ibiza and considering it takes just over two hours to fly to the Balearics from London, no sooner had I packed The Prince’s travel bag we were heading off to the Mediterranean sun.

Ibiza is an island one can easily spend a lifetime exploring and having previously discovered the Hotel Ocean Drive; its own natural charm and sincere appeal is enough alone to encourage one to return.  The Prince was thrilled to see familiar faces upon arrival “buenos días, cómo estás?” he exclaimed with much delight.  The reception was only too pleased to oblige and greeted His Highness with much enthusiasm.

We were excited to learn Ocean Drive had just finished refurbishing a number of its 42 rooms and as part of the strategy to create a boutique feel; flat screens and designer wet rooms were all part of the new look.  The Princes room had a wonderful view of the marina and with just enough room for two on the balcony; we enjoyed a rather pleasant bottle of cava before venturing out to discover more of the island.

Ocean Drive offers many extras for guests such as a daily free transfer service to the beautiful Ses Salines beach club “Guaraná” where soft sun loungers and waiter service on the beach anticipate your arrival at what is considered to be one of the finest sandy beaches on the island.

Bespoke beauty and spa treatments in your hotel room can be organised to order and for those who would like to utilise the personal chauffeur service a little further “half or full day” rates can easily be organised.  Estefan was our driver and soon enough we were venturing forth and discovering new areas to the island such as the mysterious island of Es Vedra, Cala Vadella and the rocky beach of Cala Yondal where the very fashionable Blue Marlin beach club is located.  The Prince was rather excited as we began to descend “Off Road” towards another hidden bay, “I do rather enjoy the comfort of this vehicle especially when driving down these rocky paths, one feels as though one might be a researcher for the Discovery Channel”.  Other stunning sights included the popular Cala Bassa, Cala Moli and the bohemian Cala Comte all of which were effortless to access when being driven in the comfort of our air conditioned 4×4 Porsche Cayenne.

Whilst it’s most satisfying to know the cafes, bars and restaurants of the nearby Marina Botafoch, Playa de Talamanca and Dalt Villa are just a few minutes stroll from the hotel, The Prince was also intrigued to sample the delights of the hotels own restaurant. Its contemporary menu confidently delivered a fusion of Italian, Asian and European cuisine.  Whilst clearly an attraction to hotel guests, the outside terrace also served the local yachting fraternity and an eclectic mix of pre clubbers, no doubt heading for the nearby marina hot spot; El Devino.

Some hotels have a great offer to initially tempt you with or indeed a superb service upon arrival which also grabs your attention.  It’s of no surprise Ocean Drive has both and is fast becoming its own destination, and with news that a roof top bar may well be open by 2010, His Highness will most likely be returning to experience the superb offer and service delivered by Ocean Drive very soon.
