The Travelling Prince

Having been invited to attend the wedding of a friend taking place on the island of Ibiza, the Prince decided he would like to stay at The Ocean Drive Hotel. Located on the south of the island and just a two minute walk from the beautiful Talamanca beach, the hotel’s art deco inspired exterior brought an immediate sense of nostalgia to His Highness and with 42 rooms in total, I also thought this modest sized building was well positioned overlooking the Marina Botofach next to Ibiza port.

Upon entering the hotel, it was clear the reception, lounge and bar areas had been skillfully brought together within an unpretentious open plan space and with a scatter of Barcelona chairs across the red-and-white checkerboard marble floor and unframed art works by Antonio Villanueva hanging on the walls; one was given a true sense of Spain.

His Highness had decided to take a suite and although due to his busy schedule there was little time to spend within the hotel itself, it was imperative that The Prince was able to have a rest before the wedding which was taking place locally in the old town later that afternoon.

The suite consisted of a central hallway leading to a separate bedroom, bathroom and loungeTwo balconies were independently located off the bedroom and lounge and respectively offered wonderful aspect views of the marina which itself was overlooked from the opposing bay by the glorious Dalt Vila. One could easily be forgiven for imagining that somewhere on a neighbouring balcony; a famous author was perhaps sitting, writing a chapter or two of their next major novel.

The suite design was delightful with further works of art and designer pieces strategically place throughout, The Prince was introduced to a fusion of classic and contemporary signatures that blended well within the informal setting.  His Highness entered the luxury bathroom and was delighted to see a vase of fresh flowers and an amusing basket containing complimentary sun tan and after sun lotions, “How delightful” he remarked.  I could see why this hotel appealed to His Highness and with most of the rooms having the same superb views of the glistening Mediterranean sea; other guests would be sure to agree.

It was soon time to make our way to the wedding and knowing that we would not be returning until the early hours His Highness was keen to have at least one G&T at the bar before leaving.  Once again an affable approach was demonstrated by the hotel staff and one could easily imagine spending more time in their company.  However at the very moment of contemplating a second glass, our chauffeur arrived, reminding His Highness of the wedding party.
