Soon enough we were engaged to collect our coats and hand luggage from the cloakroom and make our way to the boarding.

The Upper Class cabin is without doubt immediately welcoming, luxury customer comfort and extensive leg room was apparent. Travelling Upper Class menu does mean you have delicious prospect of devouring a four course lunch or dinner at the time of your choosing.  However the Prince like most passengers wanted to eat soon after take off in order to settle down and enjoy a classic movie afterwards.

The Prince decided on the smoked haddock paté  to start, followed by roast chicken breast, roast potatoes, in a Somerset cider sauce.  This was exceptionally good and eating off china was delightful. Nicely full, but room for treacle tart served with fresh single cream, followed by a cappuccino and after dinner mints.

Not too long after dinner a member of the cabin crew offered to make up the Prince’s bed and handed him his sleep suit, ready to watch a good movie from underneath the duvet, luxury! As usual the Virgin Atlantic entertainment was excellent with a huge selection of movies and TV programmes on offer.

A few hours later after a great movie and a delightful snooze there was a delicious afternoon tea with a selection of sandwiches, buttermilk scones with jam and clotted cream, and cupcakes. Soon after tea the captain announced the aircraft descent would begin in forty minutes with plenty of time to freshen up before landing.

Anyone who’s travelled with Virgin Atlantic before could be forgiven for thinking the economy and premium economy services are perfectly adequate and that there really is no justification for a more expensive ticket but then they probably haven’t travelled Upper Class.  If it’s the long haul flight that is being discussed then Upper Class service has to be the option everyone would like to choose.

From check in to arrival the whole experience is superb and in a way the actual practice feels slightly surreal as there is so much thought and consideration constantly being applied by Virgin Atlantic throughout. For the Prince, flying Upper Class is a matter of course and I doubt whether he will ever have to experience the other alternatives in his lifetime, certainly I have often heard the Prince say countless times before, “it’s the only way one should fly”.
