The Garden Festival Boat Cruise

The Garden Festival Boat Cruise

What: The Garden Festival

Where: Tisno, Croatia

When: 3 – 10 July

Don’t expect the travel to end, once the plane touches down in Croatia, as The Garden Festival is known for it’s beachside location and infamous Arghanoughty boat trips. Be prepared for a week full of laid-back electro, funk, and dance music.

What to Wear: Since the majority of the festival is held on – or at least near – water, a swimsuit is the most practical and popular choice of outfit. This Holly Fulton printed bikini is easy to move in (with enough coverage to get dancing!) and super funky – to say the least.

If a bikini doesn’t float your boat opt for an edgy one-piece like this one from the Jeremy Scott Spring/Summer ’13 collection instead, find similar printed designs at We Are Handsome and, the failsafe, Topshop. Simply wear with a pair of denim shorts and don’t forget those all important water-shoes (Croatia’s haven of  crystal clear blue waters owe themselves to the craggy, rocky sandless beaches – sigh).

Where to Stay: Shikar Tents are shipped from India for those travelers who wish to camp in style, otherwise, there are hotels located along the coastline all within walking distance of the beach front festival.

Exit Festival

Exit Festival

What: EXIT Festival

Where: Novi Sad, Serbia

When: 12-15 July

So much more than a music festival, EXIT began in 2000 as a student protest against the government. The 4-day long experience is not only about the creative dressing and wild hedonism, but rather it is a popular organization with a strong social platform. All the more reason to attend, EXIT has lured over two million people from 60 countries. This year, the fortress-like set will be the stage for popular entertainers such as Snoop Lion, Bloc Party, Fatboy Slim, and Atoms for Peace.

What to Wear: The rave-like atmosphere calls for anything cropped, tie-dye, or neon – or a fun combination of the three like this outfit from the House of Holland Spring/Summer ’13 collection.

Where to Stay: The festival is based in a fortress that lies on the river near Danube which provides a campsite for travellers that is merely a 20-minute walk away.

OFF Festival - Katowice, Poland

OFF Festival – Katowice, Poland

What: OFF Festival

Where: Katowice, Poland

When: 2 – 4 August

Showcasing for the eighth year in a row, this Polish festival is OFF to a good start (sorry!). The unusual location provides festival-goers with a green oasis spanned throughout two residential estates. The Valley of Three Ponds Park offers the perfect blend of city life with traditional field festival atmosphere where fans can enjoy bands such as Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, and Godspeed you Black Emperor.

What to Wear: In order to feel as tough as the music you’ll be listening to, pair a black leather skirt with a cute bandeau just as Jason Wu did for SS13.

To ensure balance while inevitably bopping your head to the beat, ankle-rise sneaker wedges like theses ones from Junya Watanabe really give the outfit that final kick.

Where to Stay: For the full festival experience of a lifetime pay an extra £45 and camp out in the grass of the beautiful city of Katowice.

Sziget Festival - Budapest, Hungary

Sziget Festival

What: Sziget Festival

Where: Budapest, Hungary

When: 5-12 August

The line up of this year’s Sziget Festival may seem to cater to the British fan including acts such as Blur, Biffy Cyro, Editors, and Dizzee Rascal, however, the scenery is most definitely not what we’re accustom to. The picturesque cityscape of the festival is stationed in a beautiful forested island in the middle of the Danube River that goes right through the heart of Budapest.

What to Wear: Before any of the lasers flash across the jam-packed audience, either of these neon-colored, attention-grabbing dresses by Versace would make you the spotlight of the Hungarian Festival.

Where to Stay: When finally traveling to a country this pretty, why ever leave? Many veteran festival-goers splurge for the more expensive weekly pass which includes camping on the gorgeous camping grounds – not that there will be much time for sleep anyway.

Splendour in the Grass - Austrailia

Splendour in the Grass

What: Splendour In the Grass

Where: Australia

When: 26-28 July

If the mid-summer London sun is wearing you down, take a mini-festcation into the cooler parts of Australia. As an alternative to Australia’s behemoth festival, Big Day Out, Splendour in the Grass is sure to keep fans on their toes – or at least their feet – for three days straight. With a line up including Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, Empire Of The Sun, and The National, the lush grounds of North Byron Parklands are sure to take a musical beating.

What to Wear: Sticking with the native theme of the outdoor Australian festival, this printed and fringed ensemble by Marios Schwab is perfect “in the grass” attire.

Where to Stay: The Global Village is set to deliver circus acts and tarot card readings. The environmentally-friendly festival allows for caravans to avoid traffic congestion and provides accommodation for up to 15,000 campers.
