Last night’s BAFTAs were a star-studded affair that proved the strength of several films throughout this year’s award season: Gravity, American Hustle and 12 Years A Slave all went home with multiple trophies to add to their collections. 12 Years A Slave took top honors as it was named Best Film, while Gravity was awarded the trophy for Outstanding British Film.
Best Actor went to Chiwetel Ejiofor for his performance in 12 Years a Slave. Cate Blanchett snagged the Best Actress trophy for her wildly entertaining work in Blue Jasmine. Blanchett gave an emotional tribute to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, saying that he “continually raised the bar” for members of the acting world. The actress fought back tears while declaring, “Phil, buddy, this is for you.”
Dame Helen Mirren was honored with a BAFTA Fellowship, presented to her by The Duke of Cambridge. As he gave her the award, he joked, “I should probably call her ‘granny,'” making reference to Mirren’s outstanding performance as Her Royal Highness in 2006’s The Queen.

With London Fashion Week in full swing, style was of the utmost importance at last night’s BAFTAs. Among the evening’s best dressed attendees was our favorite new “it girl” Lupita Nyong’o, who stunned in an emerald green silk gown by Dior. Cate Blanchett’s modest, yet gorgeous, Alexander McQueen gown looked absolutely elegant, and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt successfully pulled off matching outfits, with Angelina looking effortlessly chic in an undone Saint Laurent tux. Other favorites of ours included Les Miserables star Samantha Barks in Calvin Klein, Naomie Harris in Gucci, and Dame Helen Mirren in Jacques Azagury.

The next stop on the 2014 film awards season is the Academy Awards next month. We’ll see if last night’s winners are any indication of what is in store for the Oscars, and of course we’ll be looking forward to another night of superb red carpet style!
